Tool Inventory For the Novice
Hi…my name is Alex…welcome to my website!

A Wrench I've Never Used
There are a lot of professional home building contractors with a wide variety of tools and all the tool accessories that go along with…I’m not that guy. I’m just a seasoned do-it-yourselfer who has built and remodeled several homes in my 40+ years. I’ve ended up with quite the collection of hand and power tools.
Of course when I was first introduced to tools at the ripe old age of 2, I did not have a clue as what these things were actually used for, I just knew I had to have them. Hammers made great noise and I now had the ability to break things. Screwdrivers were awesome for poking holes in my mom and dad’s sheet rocked walls.
A lot has changed over the years. Somewhere in the transition from child to adult I discovered that each tool had a real and practical use. And I wanted all of them! It started with hammers and screwdrivers and progressed on into the more expensive power kinds like the belt sander, circular saw, router, etc, etc.
What Tools Do You Need?
Let’s start with the basics and you can move on from there. The novice remodeler or home owner will need to create a list of tasks to accomplish. With that list you will be able to create a list of tools to do the job. I will attempt to get you started by listing out what I believe to be a basic but necessary inventory.
Hammer

Pegboard Rocks
Screwdriver
Pliers (include Needle Nose)
Measuring Tape
Wrench
Clamps
Saw
Level
Extension Cord
Pry Bar
Stud Finder
Utility Knife

Neatly Organized for Easy Access
Wire Cutter
Framing Square
Sander
Drill
Caulking Gun
A Chisel or two
A Tool Box is definitely a good investment so you can find your tools
Now I know you can’t build a house with this list but it will certainly get you started with all the small repairs that come along with owning a home. As you become proficient in their use, you will be able to add to the list all the different types of the same tool that are used for different applications. Then from there…well…the possibilities are endless providing you have the funding…
Hand Tools for the Tight Budget
Speaking of funding, I realize that most everyone is on a budget these days and you may be tempted to buy the least expensive you can find. If you do this please keep in mind that you will be replacing it in a short period of time. If you stick with quality, these tools can actually last a lifetime. I have some tools that were passed down from my grandfather to my father to me and will certainly have enough life left in them to be passed down to my kids.
On a last note, safety is always first. (did I do this backwards?) Anyway, always have your safety goggles, respirator (dust mask), and gloves nearby…or on…if you are working.
